Hello all. I ahve a pretty simple question. First of all the truck I have is a 2WD 94' 235,000 miles pickup with the 22R-E engine. My question is: What kind of gas should I run in it? I know some trucks have to run 87 octane but I am unsure about the Toyota.
p.s. she runs like a champ even with this many miles. gotta love it!
I run 91 octane....we have just always used good gas since my father first owned the truck. The gas is high but the truck is used to it so it runs good with it.
As stated in your owner's manual and factory service manual (both of which I have) the 22R-E was designed to run on high Octane rating 91 as you will notice that it has smooth and quick response and will reduce carbon build up.

91 octane??? I used to have an '85 4Runner with a 22R-E and I used to run 87 in it all the time. LOL
I never have a problem with it, but that might explain why it felt VERY underpowered.

If I did happen to put 87 in my truck (we have once before), it will reduce power dramatically and mine even seems to start sputtering and hesitating. This engine was made for 91 octane, and that's just what has always been put into my truck anyway. I guess I'm lucky that my father who owned the truck before me didn't mess it up with 87.
