won't shift

i have a late 70's toyota pick up with a five speed and 20r. i started it up and the whole truck jumped (clutch didn't engage). i was able to doulbe clutch it. i checked the hydraulic fluid and it was empty. after filling it there was no difference. any ideas or questions? i think it is either the clutch or the master cylinder but that is pretty vague.

The slave cylinder for your truck is located down by the starter,i'd troubleshoot that first -you need to bleed the line now that the reservoir is filled up,do that until you get a good petal. If the clutch works but slowly fades, you need a new master or slave cylinder. If the petal feels good and you can see that the fork on the transmission is moving ,but still no clutch-you need one.I'd try bleeding it first though-how often before did you check the fluid?
