torquing a head

Hi, I am replacing a blown head gasket and I am wanting to know how much to torque the head bolts when I replace them, also is there a certain order in which to tighten the head bolts or do you start in the middle and work your way out? Oh Yea! it is a 1994 pickup, 4 cylinder. Thanks Papaw

ur correct...torque from the inside out in the sequence that YumaBill is getting for you. do it in 3 stages. example: if torque value was 90ftlbs, then do all @ 30lbs, the again @60lbs and then again @90lbs

Its also recomended to get new head bolts because they actually stretch as you torque them and teh bolt itself acts like a lock washer.

I just replaced my head gasket on my '90 Toyota pickup.

It's 48lbs/ft per stud and the tightening pattern is going by an X.

So you have
1 2 3 4
5 6 7 8

You torque, 1-8, 5-4, 2-7, 6-3, then retorque.

I quickley looked at the book at lunch and there are 10 bolts.

Do the pattern I showed but keep going side to side when tightening.
