What tools do I need for 2004 Taco Oil Change?

Very basic work but this will be the first time I am changing the oil in this particular truck. Do I need anything funky to get to the oil filter? I assume most access it behind the wheel?

Thanks

Oil and an oil filter is all you need my friend. You may want to invest in an oil filter wrench as well. You never know how hard the bastards at the dealer installed your filter. Good luck!

So I don't need a special filter wrench to get at the filter or anything like that? I remember taking a quick look to see that I would need to remove some plates of some kind to get access to it from behind the wheel well.

Thanks

You need to remove the rear skid plate to get better access to the filter if you're doing it from under your rig, but you can also access it through the driver side wheel well. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and go through the wheel well that way.

Where to bring oil for recycling?

It has been a few years since I have done by own oil changes. Growing up we would bring the oil to the local garage where they would recycle it. Where can I bring the oil these days?

Thanks

You can bring into any big chain autoparts store like AutoZone or Kragen. They should be able to take it for you.

Any troubles getting the filter off.. there's always the ol' "drive the screwdriver through it and twist it off" method. :P The filter only needs to be hand tight anyways.

I am from Massachusetts also and if you want to return oil you need the reciept from when you purchased it from that store and return it in the containers that you also purchased it in also. Its the law that they have to take it back. Thats why everyone buys the 5 gallon jug now. Or depending where you live you could also take it to your town or city dump. As for your oil change I also have an 04 Tacoma. I found it easier to drop the entire skid plate then dump the oil and change the filter which will take some postioning to take it off. I just picked up a cheap filter wrench it seems to work fine. Also you might want to lube the rear driveshaft while your under there. Good luck.
