i need help

last night i decided to take a slight detour on the road i was on. There is a place right behind some houses that has some little fun things in it. well anyways. i went through there and i had to go through a large puddle. i went throught the puddle extremely slow, there was really no splashing at all. but as soon as i got out of the puddle my engine shut off. is there something the water could have hit to do this. my truck was runnin just like normal before the puddle, about half way through the puddle i noticed that somethin was wrong, the engine almost died but i was able to pull out quick enough before it did. i reall yhave no idea what is going on. the engine started and ran fine after about 5 min. of it not starting. i have no idea what happened. any ideas?

I would say you either sucked some water in your airbox or you got some water on your distributor.

i checked the distributer and nothing got to it. the airbox was dry as well. i checked those 2 things first and since the problem wasnt there i got confused.

maybe some other part of your electrical system got wet or shorted out because of the water, but shouldn't it have worked when it dried? could the water have caused something electrical to arch, surge or blow? just a thought

You probably wouldnt find water. Due to the underhood heat, the water was quickly evaporated.
Im pretty sure that you got water on your distributor. It temporarially shorted out your ignition system and caused your engine to stall.
I had a similar problem with my '85 4Runner. Every time it would rain, the engine would spit, sputter and not want to idle. The only thing you could do was to keep your foot on the gas to keep it running. After about 30 second the engine would idle just fine. My guess is that whatever water was getting under the hood and onto the engine was evaporated in that 30 second span from engine heat.
