i've got an 87 toyota pickup with the 22r and I was wondering what kind of modifications i could make to the exhaust to make it sound a little meaner, without just making it sound loud and like a piece of crap. (ie my previous car, a toyota supra with a glasspack) also, does anybody know the model name of the 87's? 'cause all i've been able to tell people is that i've got an 87 toyota pickup. it seems to work, but if it had a name, that'd be nice too
sorry, forgot about the sound question. a guy at the local exhaust shop told me that he could make my truck sound "real sweet" with a little exhaust work ( i think he was just going to slap a muffler more flow on it and a header. I personally think you can't really make a four banger (especially a truck engine) sound that great.
my roommate put an forced air intake and a header on his IS300 (straight six) and it sounds more like an indy car now when he gets on it. its weird how an air intake and a header can change the sound.
That exhaust is made for the toyota and is by pacesetter. It is a tfx exhaust. i looked on the website and it is generally made for american trucks. imho, they would would not supply the exhaust if it did not have the throaty sound for trucks.
Grab a grinder, and cut it off after the cat. Then, go grab some pipes from autozone, and its all bolt togather from there. Thats how I was running my truck for a while, and it was deep and loud enough to set car alarms off. I recently replaced my pipe with a glasspack, and the tone is the same, but not quite as loud.
Hey snowboarder,I replaced the MUFFLER ONLY on my 4runner 22re with a red bullit glasspack 2"in and out and it sounds good and flows way better than stock-$40 at Crappy Tire.

I've got a flowtech redhots, 2" in and out, probably the exact same thing you have:
