4WD problem

I have 2000 tundra, I push the 4wd hi button and get nothing, it just flashes, never engages no matter what I do. It worked fine last fall, stored for the winter, then worked once this spring now not working at all, just flashing.

Any ideas what is wrong?

Thanks very much
Pismo

I don't know much about newer 4x4 systems but its possible it could be a vaccume issue.

I know some other manufacturers that have th push button 4x4 are actually vaccume engaged.

If not vaccume it could be the switch itself.

the system on the tundra uses electric motors to opperate the 4wd there is a motor on the ft diff and a motor on the transfer case. the fault is eighther a bad motor or an electrical/ computer problem. have someone opperate te 4wd button and look to see if you can see the ft diff motor opperate, it is usally the cause. good luck

Thanks, It seems to work sporadically when cold, when I first start it up. Never works after running for a while. I believe the dash switch works because I hear/feel something happen when I press it. Then the flashing begins.

Thanks

Not having personal knowledge of this system, the flashing likely indicates a problem detected in that sytsem.

For $0.00, I would get under the truck, and inspect all electrical connectors on the tranny and diffs. Take a few minutes to trace the wiring harnesses underneath...looking for pinched wiring, breaks, and loose coonectors. Taking off the electrical connectors, looking for corrosion, and spraying an aerosol "electronic terminal cleaner/lube" that is plastic-safe may be the fix. A large can of this is usually around $10 at places like Lowe's/Radio Shack/Home Depot.
