i'm an owner of a 1991 22r-e standard cab pickup. i recently had to replace the downpipe which got me thinking... The thing runs great and has 180k miles, but now i'm looking to baby it a bit more and give it a bit more power.
1) are there any 22re pickup spacific forums out there?
2) i'm looking at adding an LC engineering header kit and perhaps going turbo some time in the future, would i be better off swapping out the 22re with a 3RZ-FE?
3) my dash only has a 2 space for a stereo, but i've seen some that also have an additional 1.5 bellow the 2. where can i fine these?
4) any recomendations for shops in the bay area (california)
LC is pretty expensive try www.summitracing.com well they both are pretty expensive is your truck a 2wd or a 4wd? because the 2rz should be good for u if u want speed the 3rz has more torque. I dont know much about audio i bet cam2Xrunner could help u out with that

a pacesetter header, new exhaust, cam, and intake defenetly increases the fun factor. a swap isnt worth it unless youre going to do a supra 7 or v8 in there, and these are for something much diferent than a comuter a car.
this and yotatech are two of the best forums ive found for 22re info.

i think so. its the exact same tri - y design as the LC and Doug Thorley, for a quarter of the cost. some dudes will tell you it will rust out quickly, and it might, but if you treat it corectly before installing then it should do pretty well. has for me anyway.

Some time ago, I had TWO 1993 std pickups with the 22RE engine and 5 spd tranny. 0-60 MPH runs would be in the mid 8's, not bad for a truck that gave me 30 mpg!
One thing, you live in Cali (I used to) and they have strict smog/emission rules there. Forget about Turbo or engine swaps with C.A.R.B. crap and/or a referee. You may be out of luck with the header too.
just my 2 cents.

ah forgot about emmisions. at least one of the headers previously stated are emmisions legal, but i forget which one.
im going to have to call BS on the 8 second 0-60 unless you built the crap out of the engines and weighed about 2000lbs.

Actually I call bs on this as I can make a 8.49s 0-60 run myself. Stock engine, only thing changed is tranny (from 5 spd to 4 spd). If your truck is properly maintained and isnt lifted to the heavens, then it should be able to make a respectable if not suprising run.

THANK YOU....both of my old stock Toyota p/u's weighed 2400-2500 lbs...!!! Completely stock with those stock pizza cutter tires. Oil always changed 3k miles and they both had about 120k on 'em. Both had newer clutches. Absolutely capable trucks to 60 mph....after freeway speeds....well, too much wind resistance.
SEFUS, maybe you shouldn't have your grandpa try and do a 0-60 run... ...and it was MID 8's I was referring to, not specifically 8.0 seconds. I wonder if you are going to call B/S on my Tacoma 3.4 liter 0-60 mph in about 7 seconds.... ??? Come to Atlanta and I'll show you myself. ---or read the 1995 tacoma V6 brochure that shows it in 7.1 seconds.
Just my 2 cents from an old man.
