How is it possible? RS3200 Plus upgrade for cheap

hello

i have a 2001 highlander which came equipped with engine Immobilizer W/Pre Wire For Alarm and factory keyless entry. I know I will need the GB sensor unit (PN 08586-48020), but I don't want to buy the full RS3200 plus kit (PN 08586-48010), since the options in my vehicle already provide some of the contents of the kit. I know I already have the status monitor because I can see it (duh). i know i need to get the microphone from radio shack. so my questions are:

are both ECUs already in the vehicle? how do i check for them?
whats the key cylinder switch for?

RS3200 Plus kit parts:
wire harness, key cylinder switch, security ECU, GBS ECU and a couple other things I know i will need to buy.

thanks to all.

TC

This probabley wont help you at all but I have an 04 Tacoma with keyless entry and I wanted an alarm also but the dealer quoted me full installation at 350$ which I thought was too high. Well anyways I did some research and found out that my truck has all the wiring and hardware for a fully functional alarm including the glass break sensor! All I needed was the alarm upgrade kit because really all I needed was to make the GBS work and the LED. I hooked it up in no more than 10 minutes. The part number was PN0858604820 and it ran me 165$. The Tacomas (and Tundras I heard) have a bypass wire under the steering column that you can just disconnect and the alarm will work if the doors are opened or the locks are opened while the alarm is armed by your keyless entry pad or by the power lock button on your door. The alarm upgrade is required to make the GBS work and to receive a discount on your insurance which should pay itself back in a few years. I found out all of this on customtacos.com maybe there is someone there who can help you. Good luck.

thanks dana_15. thats what i am afraid of, paying for the full upgrade kit at $200 plus (+ another $100 for the gbs sensor) and realizing that all i needed was the gbs microphone.

i saw in the installation instructions for the alarm kit where the security ecu is, but i cant see if it is there or not without taking the glove compartment off, which i don't have the right tools to do. i am hoping someone here will help me out.
