Rear Bumper Compatibility- Quick Question

Will a rear bumper off of a 89-95 Toyota fit a '88-older model (I have an '87)? I am looking for a chrome bumper with the black step. On eBay I found a OEM Toyota bumper and it says that it will fit. The part number for the bumper is 00228-35912-13. So I went on and looked up that part number from Toyota and it comes up and says '89-'95.

I can get that bumper (00228-35912-13) from my local Toyota dealership for $150, but I want to make sure that it will fit.

Here is the eBay listing I saw: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33640

Does anyone know if it will fit? If not, does anyone have the toyota part# of the bumper that will fit?

Thanks for the help

That's hilarious, I did the EXACT same thing. I saw that auction and cross referenced it at 1sttoytaparts.com.

I have seen this question asked MANY times (myself included) and have received the following answers:

1. Yes, it will bolt right in.

2. Yes, if you use the 84-88 bumper bumper brackets, it will work.

3. No, not without minor modifications.

4. No, not without major modifications.

5 Nope, no way in hell it's gonna work.

One of these days, I'm just going to buy one and find out for myself!!

Well I emailed the guy with the auction and here was his response:

Quote:
You asked:
"Are you sure that this bumper will fit '88 and older pickups? I used the part# from the picture and searched Toyota replacement parts and it came up with '89 to '95. So I wasn't sure if it would fit or not. I also called a local Toyota dealership w/ the part# and they said it was only for '89 to '95, but I think they were just going by what they saw on the computers. Any info on this would really help me out... Thanks"

I have sold a few of these to people with older trucks (81-88) and they confirmed that the bumper fit. I have had no returns and everyone has been happy with the look of the bumper. I am a dealership and if someone would have called me before I started selling these on ebay and asked me if this bumper would fit a 1988 truck I would have said no, but now I know different. If you bought it and it did not fit I would happily accept the return and give you a full credit (minus freight). I hope this info helps. Thank You!! Todd
I think I will go and buy the bumper and see if it fits. Lucky for me the 1sttoyotaparts.com is a dealership in my area, so i can call in the order and pick it up, so no paying shipping. I looked around the site and couldn't find any listing for a bumper for '88 and older....so I don't know what to say.

I will see what i come up with and post it...

---------------------------
Also, I just checked out some site for replacement bumpers (http://www.autostyles.com/toyotabumpers.htm).... from what I see there, the bumper itself is the exact same between '80-'88 and '89-'94....but the mount kit is different between the two years...

I bought the bumper and put it on yesterday....fits perfectly!

So, just to let everyone know, the Toyota step bumper... # 00228-35912-13 (chrome w/ black step) will fit the '88 and older model pickups (along with '89-'95)...
