Truck wants to stall when I rev in neutral

I have a 1985 2wd 5 22r carbed 5 speed pickup that has been acting up. I visited 2 local toyota dealerships and talked to the parts guys but they really dont know what is causing this. They told me to adjust the dash pot but since I do not have an automatic I do not have a dash pot, so that cannot be adjusted.

This is what happens. I have an external tach.
After the car is at normal operating temp and I am in neutral, I will rev the engine to 1500 rpms and the engine will drop down below 500 rpms and want to die for 3 seconds then will die or jump back to idle at 750rpms.. It depending how high above 1500 rpms I rev it depends if it will die completely of go back to idle at 750 rpms. I am at wits end with this and really dont know. I just changed my timing chain and thought that had something to do with it but it didn't. My timing is right on.

Someone must know what is wrong. HELP!

That was just an example. In real world driving when I come to a stoplight and have to put it in neutral or hold the clutch in my engine wants to die. It only happens when the rpms are dropping to neutral.

Is there an EGR valve on your engine?

If so, check the hoses, and the valve itself.
