The Hilux has has an available diesel engine for many years but Toyota offered diesels in the US for a very limited time.

The Land Cruisers had diesel options, with the B type engine i.e. BJ4x, BJ7x, and I believe that the 70 series is the last series to offer diesel options, but I could be wrong. The Hi-Lux has 'em, but you can only get them in other countries, because Toyota likes to make the USA suffer that way... I'm not aware of when diesel was an option in the US, but Canada and Mexico had the diesel options.
