you can build a pipe bumper for about $100
HF pipe bender
a couple lengths of 1 1/4" SCH 40 from HD
a couple 1/4" plates from your local metal supply guy
and you got a rear bumper
if you don't want to wrap aroun the rear you don't even need the pipe bender

to notch - simply cut the pipe at 30* - a grinder, chop saw, hack saw, Sawzall, will all work for this
if you can't weld
mock it up and take it to a local welder or a votech and they should be able to help you out (welder will be a nominal cost, votech probably free)
go get som 2" ID square tube and you have a tow hitch maybe 1/4 or 3/16" wall

I have about $45 and 3 hours into my sliders
a pice of 1/4" will go in the middle for support and 3/16" tabs will go on the frame mounts and i will paint and install
maybe another 1hr (final fitment is a pain)
wouldn't use sch 40 for a chage - some use it for exos, but for a bumper it is fine.

btw 1 1/4 sch 40 is sbout 1 3/4" OD

One advantage of making your own is you can make it stout enough to lift the rear of the truck with a hi-lift jack. That can be handy if you get stuck off-road. I had my '85 set up so I could use the hi-lift on all four corners.

oh yes, the trusty hi-lift jack. that was another reason i liked the allumenem one on my old 85. when the truck died i sold off all the parts, including the bumper. i know i have seen that bumper on other toyota trucks. so i dont know if it is a stock part or not. hase enyone elnce seen thoes crome allumenem back bumpers on eny trucks?

I'm pretty sure what you had was not factory stock. A dealer might have added it, if a previous owner did not. The factory bumpers, especially on the front, were more decoration than function.
