Toyota tacoma engine knocking

Hello once again guys. i have a slight problem and need some help. i have a 1998 toyota tacoma with a 3.4 liter v6. it has 189,000 miles on it and still runs great. actually i have 2 slight problems. one is the engine knocks worsed now than it ever has. if i run supreme unleaded, it doesnt hardly knock at all but i use regular or mid grade gas it knocks pretty bad. the second problem is when im sitting still and the engine is idling, it will idle smooth as ever for about 20 to 40 seconds and then it goes through a rough idle spot for about 10 or 15 seconds and then back and fourth. i use lucas gas treatment once a month and i have a new air filter and plugs. im not sure what the little box is that goes on the plug ive been told its a hot pack or something like that. is this something i need to replace also? any tips would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance for the help.

If it doesnt knock on 93 octane, I would suggest running that. Knocking is like a timebomb, it will eventually ruin your engine.

run some seafoam through a vac into the manifold (follow the directions on the label to find a vac line) let the engine die, let sit for 5-10 min then restart and watch the smoke show. you may want to do this twice. this should free up some of the carbon deposits in the combustion chambers to reduce your knocking. dump the seafoam that you have left into your gastank to clean your injectors. you may want to follow this with an oil change, the deposits and seafoam may contaminate your oil.

AutoZone may or may not have it, but Napa will definitely carry the stuff. Just follow the directions on the can and you'll be golden.
