Possible Timing Chain Noise

Hey guys I've got a question for everyone.

I just got the ol 1988 Toyota pickup off my father and since 2002 it has had a diesel sound in the motor. This started after replacing the timing chain. The noise starts in every gear w/ little exceleration if the pedel is 1/2 or more the noise isn't there however like I said in any gear even nuteral the noise sounds like a diesel with little exceleration. Please help the truck has 140000 and I would like to fix the problem before anything major happens.

I'm hoping that the gear on top got changed at the same time that the chain was changed, right? New tensioner too? Sometimes when you change the timing chain, crap can fall down into the oil pan after you take the timing chain cover off. No foriegn objects or fluid in the oil?

My ol man told me that he had the chain replaced about 3 years ago. I've sence talked to him and he just knows that the chain was changed. The noise has been going on for 3 years and every oil change is great. Ol man changes the oil himself and no oil being used and no metal any where. The noise just apears when the fuel is pressed lightly. 5th gear 75 perfect no noise

Haul off the valve cover and check and see if the timing chain guides are intact. The one on the driver's side usually breaks and then the chain slaps on the cover, causing the diesel noise.
