Question cannot put truck into neutral

Help! I just got my car, and the battery died while in my garage. I am trying to put it into neutral so I can push it onto drivway to jumpstart it. However the car will not go into neutral. This is my first tacoma and it did not come with an owners manual. I have the keys in the ignition and its set in the on position and I am pushing the brake in but it will not come out of park. It just won't budge. I do not know anything about cars and I am not sure what the problem is. Any suggestions? Please Help

it's an auto, right? i don;t know exactly how the shifter is on your truck, or any auto, but if there is a large button on it (that does not say overdrive) hold that in while trying. (im thinking of the shifter in most avaons and camry's) also it may just be a saftey feature toyota put in there to prevent parked cars from rolling away, like if a little kid was playing with the shifter and popped it into neutral while the car was off. if you can't move the car, see if one of your neighbors has a portable battery charger that you could hook up, or you could switch the battery out of another car just to move yours. good luck

ok here look for the shift lock button on the shifter base. It should be a square plastic cover that looks like u can take it off your gonna need a flat head/slotted screwdriver to take it off once the cover is off u can push the button and shift your truck into neutral. good luck

Is your truck on a hill? If it is, there is pressure on the drive train that many times (most times) makes it very difficult to move the shifter. Try having someone push on the rear of the truck (if it facing forward) while you place a block behind the tire. This will relieve some of the load on your drive train and you should then be able to put it in neutral.

Let me know if this helps!
