Sloppy shifting - extension housing seal?

I picked up a cheap 88 4x4 truck a month or two ago, and I need to do a few things to it. Starting off with the cheap stuff: The shifting feels very loose, and I read somewhere that the problem on these trucks is a bushing down on the shifter.

A toyota parts website lists an "extension housing seal" for like 6 bucks, could this be what I need? They have nothing else for a the transmission. Or does anyone know where to get the proper part?

So, do I need both of those? And can dealers generally get them?

Yes it is recommended that you replace both of them as the bushing wears out causing excessive freeplay which brakes the seat into several pieces.Any dealership can get them as some dealerships have them in stock too.

Thanks. I did this yesterday, and the shifting feels a good bit better. Far from perfect of course, but its got 200 thousand miles.

Interestingly, none of the pieces were broken. One piece may have been totally gone though..somewhere in the transmission. The replacement parts were different than whateve was on there (I assume stock), bigger and of different material.

Just for reference, if you're going to do this on an '88 4wd toyota, there is a little boot (on the shifter lever retainer) inside the big boot. Its not connected to anything, but it is a major pain to get off. Don't be an idiot like me and try to use a screwdriver. Haha. And the 88 at least doesn't have the turn release on the retainer, its got 4 screws instead.
