Thumbs down i think my clutch is going out

today we tried to fill m the bed of my 92' pickup with dirt to to some yardwork. We had the bed about 3/4 full and i tried to go up a slight incline and around the property. I could feel the clutch slipping and smelled it too.It also would grind a little bit going into reverse. The previous owner said that it was replaced at 130,000mi, it now has almost 165,000. It felt perfect until out stupidity act today. dad and i quickly unloaded it into his tundra and i drove mine up and down the driveway, still smelling it a little on pull outs on hills. I am letting it sit until tomorrow morning hoping it doesnt act up. If it does though, what would be my best bet on a new clutch? Approx. how much will the run me to buy one. I was thinking maybe centerforce. Im pertty sure the clutch that is in it will be ok for what i use it for, but im just trying to get a price range of what new costs.

Anybody got an idea on what the Toyota dealer charges for a clutch change using a standard OEM Toyota clutch disc??

At work we have an '02 that's still running on the original clutch. Just waitin' to see when it'll go.

On the other hand, we used to have a '93 and a '95. The '93 went thru clutches consistently every 100,000 miles. (kid drivers). We donated the '93 to a local charity in '97. The '95 never did get a clutch (more of the sales guy's truck) and we finally sold that to a former employee. Last I heard it was just under 200k miles and STILL hadn't had the clutch changed.

Wish I could remember what it cost.

I ***DO*** however, remember that our '97 Mazda B2300 had a special *circumstance* which meant that the whole tranny had to be dropped and that clutch change cost us like $700!!! Whooooaaaa...........We DEFINITELY should've bought that one with an auto trans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From what I remember reading, an asco clutch kit is rebadged by toyota with toyota parts #'s. I've seen the kit pop up on ebay from time to time.

At my work I only pay $160 for a RhinoPac clutch kit...not too bad for a pretty good clutch.

Here is what you do. get up to around 30 miles an hour place truck into highest gear 4th or 5th if you have 5th and floor it watch the tach or listen for the engine to rev up. If you don't hear anything like the engine reving or the tach rising up then you are okay for some time to come. Good luck. Anothere way is to engage the e-brake in an open lot and put truck into highgear again watch for the tach to rise or engine to rev get it up to like 2000 rpm and let out the clutch and it should stall if not the clutch is going out.
