3.0L V6...blown head gasket

A friend of mine has a '93 4runner with the 3VZ-E 3.0L V6. The headgasket failed probably about a year ago. One of his family friend, which is a backyard-mechanic told him he would fix it. Well, that didn't really work out and the guy told him that he wasn't going to finish the job. So he got the 4runner back and I went over and took a look at it. The guy started the job, but never finished it. Probably got scared when he realized how much work he got himself into...

It not apart completely yet....probably to the point where you start to remove the timing belt. I told my friend that I would help him out a little because he is going to attempt to finish the job himself.

I have read some other posts, so I know doing this isn't a walk in the park, but does anyone know of any sites that have information on this. Anything else besides the Chilton manual that I have would be great...

I have never worked on these V6s, just my 22RE...

Any other advice/information would be helpful too

Thanks

I have a 93 t100 3.0L v6. I have not done this myself but have replaced head gaskets on other vehicles.

My advice is get a Manual. Factory preffered but a Haynes manual will do.

If you have more time than money and are not in a hurry, it should not be a big deal. Remember to check the head and block for cracks. Check cylinder walls for gouges and scars. You will probably have to take the heads to a machine shop and have them machined.

Also take pictures and/or make diagrams and label everything. This way when it is time to reassemble you know where everything goes.

Good luck.
