Is it 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive? A slight ticking is normal for your valves. The air fan sound is normal. All these Japanese engines sound like huge vacuum cleaners. Why did you mention off road tires? If its a 4wheel drive and you hear ticking you may want to check your CV joints. The first sign when they start to go is a clicking sound, especially when turning.

what year is your truck? It's it's a 22r/re it's definitely normal. The fan and valve noise from those things can get pretty loud. I remember mine always quieted down after a fresh oil change.

Just make sure it's not pinging you're hearing, because that sounds similar (in my opinion)

Good luck!

If theyre loud its not normal. A slight ticking is normal. Loud means theyre telling you to adjust them.

I have a 22R and when I punch the gas, I can hear a bdddd bdddd sound, sounds almost like a diesel. Is that valves too? I've heard of people adjusting the valves differently to stop this sound, any suggestions?

Check out this thread and scroll down to 87_SR5's post and listen to his sound clip of his valves before he omited the problem. If your motor sounds like this sound clip, most likely it just needs the valves adjusted. If the motor has high milage, it may need the adjusting screws replaced.

I wouldn't say this is normal. My valves are quiet, almost dead silent to be honest.
