My gas pedal is real sticky, hard to press, whenever I get in and start the engine. Once running, and I have pressed the pedal once, it's OK. Below the throttle there is a part with a spring that seems to hold the throttle up a bit. I think that may be the problem. Anyone know what that is, what's it's purpose is?
Sounds like it's time to clean the throttle body. After many miles of dirt passing the the air filter and blowby vapor build-up, the throttle butterfly gets sticky. I'll just copy and paste an earlier post I wrote for t-body cleaning instructions. Here it is.
As for cleaning the throttle body, I'm not sure how much experience you have on these motors, so I'll try to keep it simple. If I offend you due to my simple explanations, I appoligize in advance.
There is a large intake hose going from the air filter housing to a chunk of metal called a throttle body. You only need to remove the end going to the throttle body itself. Once you have removed the intake hose, poke your finger around the left side of the throttle body and you should feel a 2 small orfices around there. These lead to the air valve which allows extra air to enter the throttle body to slightly increase the idle when the motor is cold. It also controls the amount of air for the idle itself as well. These orfices get clogged over time from accumulated dirt that happened to pass the air filter as well as blow-by vapors from the crankcase.
Get a can of throttle body cleaner from the auto parts store that is oxygen sensor and catalytic converter safe. Remove the hose leading from the thottle body to the air valve. You don't want the cleaner getting in there and shorting out the air valve.
Give all of those orfices a good shot of cleaner and make sure they are free and clear. While you're at it, get a clean rag, liberaly shoot cleaner on it, open the throttle all the way and clean on and around the butterfly valve. You should get a bunch of black crap on the rag. I also go a step futher and spray carb cleaner on a toothbrush and brush aound the throttle butterfly. Keep at it until it's clean. Hook everything back up in reverse and you're done.

I think this may be something diferent since it only happens when the trucj has been sitting for a bit. I have to slam the dedal down once at the beginning. Not a big deal but i'd like to fix it.
Dead on qsd just cleaned mine you can really tell the difference man i use MOC throttle body cleanner works great! After u spray your trucks not gonna start right up you have to play around with the gas then your trucks gonna sound like a dirt bike for a couple seconds then fire right up the tell tell signs that it works is the exhaust smell is different

Actually, the best approach is to yank off the throttle body and remove the TPS. Spray every singe vacuum orifice (there are orifices on the rear part of the throttle body that are not accessible from the anywhere else). After everything is squeaky clean, reinstall the tps and adjust it. This made the biggest difference for me. The only item on a 22re that you have to replace is the gasket for the t body. I got mine online from 1sttoyotaparts.com for $0.70 (along with some other goodies )
To clean the throttle body remove the air intake hose and examine the intake and throttle body for excessive carbon build if found then buy a can of throttle body cleaner labeled "safe on oxygen sensors,TPS's and catalytic converters" and make sure your engine is fully warmed up prior to using as when the throttle body is hot it dissolves the carbon easily and quickly.The labels usually specify to park the vehicle at groung level (0 degrees,no inclination) and have the engine running but I disagree I instead park the vehicle on a hill facing down and shut the engine off and hold a rag below the lip of the throttle body and poor the stuff and use a tooth brush.

I finally got around to doing this today and...wow...what a difference. I sprayed the valve and in the 3 holes. I don't know if that was thr ight thing to do but my idle sure is smoother and the sticky gas pedal is gone. Thanks for all the help.
how do you adjust your tps? Off topic, but my truck idles high (about 2,000 RPM ) when i first start it (cold starts). I thought itd jsut do that in the winter, but now in summer, it does it too. Itll run @ 1800-2000 RPM for maybe 3-5 mins and then settle back down to 1000, which the idle is set at. Is this caused by the TPS? Is there a way i can adjust it? Ive been told that the computer is naturally set up to do this and cant be changed.
