Canada breather lines

I've gotta put some breather lines on the front and rear axles of my '87 p/u, 'cause I'm getting tired of changing the fluids when I get stuck in a mud hole. Does anybody else have breather's on, and if so, what type/size of hose did you use for it?

I used regular rubber fuel hose when I did my '85. The size was the closest I could find to fit the pipe nipples that fit in the holes where the original valves were. I think it was 5/16". Hose clamps sealed them up.
