Without getting a better description, I'd agree that it sounds like a charcoal canister problem. It could be cracked, the hoses connected to it could be cracked or loose, or most commonly, the check valves are stuck or clogged. I am not too familiar with how your model SUV is designed, but you usually have to buy the entire assembly and cannot replace the check valves just by themselves.
Lift uo the hood and start your engine. Is there a stronger than usual smell of fuel? If so, first check all the hoses leading to the charcoal canister before you go replacing it. The charcoal canister is part of a system that collects fuel that evaporates from your fuel tank so that it doesn't get released into the atmosphere. Unfortunately, if you live in a warm climate, your fuel is more prone to quicker evaporation. Eventually, the pores in the charcoal of the canister will fill up and it will have to be replaced...nothing you can really do about that. If the vehicle was not driven for an extended time(like one month), all that fuel evaporates a lot quicker into the charcoal canister. Yet another reason to start up your vehicle every few days!
