does not go any faster..

a friend has this problem in his 4runner. he's not going any faster even if he pushes the gas pedal. he checked most parts that may cause this problem, there are no signs of damage. and sometimes, when it gets worse, the engine dies down. i said it might be on the coverter. any tips on this?

and if it is so on the converter, where can he possibly get one without being bothered by the price?

Try a junk yard for the cat. When was the last time he replaced the fuel filter? Could be slack in the throttle cable as well.

The problem indicates that there must have been a problem with the catalytic converter. When catalytic converters fail they normally clog up with debris and block the flow of exhaust gas from getting out of the system. A totally clogged converter will eventually cause the engine to die due to increased backpressure. Usually the only way to tell if a catalytic converter is clogged is to remove it and check the change in engine performance. When a mechanic suspects a clogged converter they may remove the O2 sensor from the exhaust pipe and see if there is a change in performance.

If your friend plans on getting a new converter I have found one that sells discounted toyota converters she can visit their online store, call their auto parts specialists for any additional queries.
