'93 4x4 p-up 4 cyl. Should I buy it?

A friend has a '93 4 cyFI, 4x4 p-up for sale. It has 120K miles and 5 speed. Standard cab Body is in good condition but it has no air cond, never did have it.

The compression is in the 100's and the exhaust smells like sulphur real bad. The gears seem hard to get into first when stopped.
No check eng light but that may have been disconnected.

Does this truck have any miles left in it?
Does anyone think there is a serious problem with the engine?
What seems to be wrong with it?
What is a fair price?

Thanks, Brian

offer him $1500 or $2,000. Its hard for us to tell you what a fair price is without pics, but with what you've said, thats about a reasonable offer. These are good motors. Im not sure what is causing the smell, but if you can get it for that price, itd be worth putting somr more $ into it because itll last forever if its fixed right and kept well. AS far as the first gear thing, id first drain the trans fluid and change it with 4 quarts of new 75w-90 or 80w-80 hypoid gear oil. Over time the fluid gets old and dirty and may be the cause of its hard shifting. Im not a pro on trannys, but its best to check the easy stuff first. JMO

i also have a 93 4x4 140,000 miles
take a look at the timeing chain guides ( if they have not been replaced ) this is the one weak area of the 22re. lots of info on this in the search area. I did my time/chain, head gasket @ 128,000 miles Gasket blew total cost about $1200.00 but most of that cost was a new head and valves could of saved some on this but did not want to rebuild the old one.

I just did all the fluids on mine about 3000 miles ago cost me around 50 bucks I plan on doing this every two years from now on

Great trucks tuff as an oak just need to give em a little TLC when they get up there in miles
