USA Hopefully Helpful

I was gonna do the same thing, put mechanical guages in my rig, 1989 $wd ext cab truck w/ 22re. 1.Could you just get a thermostst housing that has a threaded bung for a sensor in it and use it for the temp guage u r wanting to run? I've seen a lot of these for sale on ebay. 2. On the oil side, I had thought about using a tee so I could still have my idiot light and have the mechanical guage at the same time. I eventuall scrapped the whole idea and got a sr5 style cluster off ebay and swapped it in. All I had to do was to get an oil pressure sender and ajust the tach for the 4 cyl. Very easy to do! and a lot simpler. I personally wouldn't mess with the O.E sensors, They all send info to the ecu in some way.

By, Newjack"Since the cluster you have came from a V6, you will need to recalibrate the tach for your 22re. this is very easy to do. open up the cluster, remove the speedo, and plug in the unit. with the car running turn the small "white potentiameter" pointing towards where the speedo was. match the rpms with another tach and your done. replace the speedo and enjoy. BTW, don't forget to replace your oil pressure sender with one that matches that cluster. the idiot light sender will fry the 4runner/SR5 oil pressure gauge."
This is very simple to do, only takes a few minutes. So, if somebody tell u it wont't work, don't believe them!
