Answer to your questions:
1-Power steering from any 1979-1983 will fit your truck stock
2-In 1980 the stock engine would be the 20r-22r didn't come out until 1982
3-Don't know what you are asking
Hope this helps.
1. mine (1980 4x4) has power steering. 79-83 will definetly fit. the only problem is that toyota did not make the 2 wheel drive and four wheel drive trucks with universal parts. the 4x4 got some beefier parts to compensate for added weight, larger tires, driving abuse off-road, etc. i don't know if the power steering is exactly the same on the 2x4 and 4x4 though. your local dealer parts department should know.
2. 20r, 22r introduced in 81 (80 1/2 actually) along with some minor changes to the body.
3. Do you have bench seats? i know that there are not any for the bench seats, only generic ones that don't fit. i just had mine reupholstered at a very good shop for $300, but some shops will do it for under $200.
Is it a manual? What color? is it in good condition? what is the guy asking for it?
let us know if you buy it.

This is the one I am thinking of buying....the interior isn't the greatest, seats are crap, no headliner, no carpet, engine is completly stock and origional, along with tranny, ODO says 35,000 but I am thinking along the lines of 235,000. I am going to call the guy tommorow to find more info. He told me his top speed is 70mph because of the large tires, but is 100% road worthy.
I don't know alot on toyota pricing, how much do you think this is worth from the info given?
thats a nice looking truck. i only have 115,000 on mine, but you ould be right about the miles. it has a 20r and a 4spd tranny, just like mine, infact, it is almost the same color too. the flat bed is nice, and it looks to be in good shape.
things you should ask about:
1. body and frame rust: under plastic bed liners, bottom of front fenders, rocker panels. luckily its a CA car, so rust is minimal if any.
2. the 20r is notorius for exhaust manifold leaks. mine tends to kick out exhaust studs, but a longer stud and some locktite will fix that for good. also, this engine was not originally designed to run traditional exhaust gaskets. it used the heat shield as a gasket, and toyota added the gaskets a few years later, so check and make sure it has gaskets. i would recommend longer suds and running gaskets on both sides of the heat shield.
3. many people abuse these trucks since they are known as an extremely reliable rig (they are, i flog mine and it has never given me problems, ever). check in the fenderwells and underbody for signs of rock damage or stuff like that.
4. while your under there check the gear lub levels in the diffs and tranny. proper maintainence shows he took care of his truck.
5. towing. this engines have a good low end, but are not really great towers. towing big loads (2500+ lbs) can be hard on them.
6. check the engine bay for busted vacuum lines and stuff. if its the original engine its 25 years old.
can't think of anything else right now.
that looks like a nice truck man , i would definetly check that out. if it seems to be in good condition i say go for it. let us know about the truck and how it turns out.

-does anyone/place sell the foam pad that goes on the top of the cad that the headiner glues to?
- what kind of millage should I expect (20r on 33's)
i don't know about the head liner, but in terms of gas milage you will get (depending on how you drive) 15-17 mpg. my friend has a 83 on 32's (but a 22r) and gets 18-20. the 20r doesn't get quite as good gas milage as the 22r.
cool that you bought it. let us know how the truck turns out.

nother Question.......down the road I will build a beefy 22r for this...........will any 22r mate to the 5spd on this, or do I have to look for a certain year?
*on a side note think a 24 valve cummins would fit in the engine compartment*
cummings diesel in a toyota truck...hmmm...interesting.
guess i was wrong about the 4spsd.
as far as i know they all will, i am certain about 22r. but i am not sure about the 22re (it probably will, i think all the bolt patterns and input/output shafts are the same.)
try searching the forum for this. i know it has been asked before.

the hybris that you are refering to is the 20r heads on the 22r block.
i am only 90% sure, but i think it is to raise compresion, since the 20r has smaller combustion chambers than the 22r. the 20r also has a double row timing chain, which is stronger that the 22r's single row. the only problem is that some major drilling is needed to get the 20r head to work on the 22r block. i have both good sides and bad sides to this combo.
try these two links for basic info. i found them both to be good.
there are not many people with 79 or 80 4x4's on this forum, especiallt ones with a 20r still in them, so it is exciting to see another one. mine only has 112,xxx miles, so i have a ways to go before i swap another engine in mine (thinking 22re with a 5spd). keep us posted on your truck, i would love to here about what happens with it.
