Help! Tightening Crankshaft Pulley Locks Engine

88 22R Engine

I replaced the timing chain. Parts on crankshaft are new chain sprocket, oil pump drive gear, and pulley. I can turn the engine by hand untill I tighten the crankshaft pulley. When I do that I get a cracking noise and the pulley won't turn.

when you tighten the pulley, at least on my 87, i was told to put the truck's parking brake on, and put it in reverse to hold it steady. Try that and see, since you have to put like 116 lbs of torque on the nut anyway, theres no other way to get it tight enough

Well, I really screwed up. I installed the bottom timing chain sprocket on backwards. It crushed the chain and sprocket. When I tried to start it, it bent the valves. Now I'm looking at a head job. So much for my easy chain replacement.

Oh man, that sucks, sorry to hear about that. Hoping you didn't mess up your crankshaft in the process, otherwise, good luck finding parts man, they will probably be easy to find, and somewhat cheap.
