Reeeealy Bad Gas Mileage

I finally made it to Honduras where my 1985 4runner EFI was waiting for me. I bought it sight unseen. And now I wish I had seen it first. Every weekend I work on something different. I have one huge problem that I hope someone can solve. I get 10 miles to the gallon. How is this possible? Any Ideas? This isn't just low tire pressure or that I use the AC. Its something big. Help, please.

I asked about three months ago whether fat or skinny tires should be used on my truck in Honduras. It started quite a string. Now that I am here I can tell you that the trucks that go off road use skinny mudders.

Thanks in advance for your response. Hondo

haa haaa just kidding, here is my story hope it helps, my 5th time writing it im pretty shure you should have seen it somewhere on this forum page, anyz, when i 1st bought my truck i was getting 15MPG thats both city and HY driving, so i decided to do these things to it,

bought it at 148,000 95 V6
F.I.cleaner
bought engine restore dropped it in
2 days later flushed engine with gunk engine flush
new 4*4 oil
rear/ front diffrential and transmission gear lube changed to lucas 75 90
platnimum 4 plugs (but i think the denso is better)
new cheap air filter

that rite there bought me up to 19MPG with the same driving i was doing b4

then i swaped in the K&N filter and i got 22MPG at 50/50 city to HY but i dont take my RPM over 3000 also so that helps alot so on HY i only do 115kms/hr

i havent changed my fuel filter yet because the bolts was ceased so i cut the line and now i cant find a new line not even from toyota verry weired but that ill help in mpg

next im changing my heavy fan to electric
adding nology wires with an ignition ampfilier
custom electric water pump
custom cold air box with tube

after all is installed im hoping to get 25+MPG on a V6 3.0 then im gonna sell the truck and get a tacoma hahah and do the same to that ill get more power and MPG of that

buy your electric fan from a scrap yard shouldent cost more than $10US or take it out of a junk car thats preffered a V6

here is some ideas

Thanks Rotarex. So you think it is a combination of problems. I'll start doing many of those things you mentioned. It still seems like I am losing a lot of mileage.

8by10 when was your 4runner last tune up? I had a 89 toy pickup and when I noticed a decrease in gas mileage I tuned it up. My tune up consist of: Changing oil and filter, air filter, Distribitor cap, spark plugs and wires and lastly Timing it w/timming light. When my truck reached over 100k I had my valves retorqed and noticed an increase in gas miliage when I had it done.

I just put in a new cap, rotor, gas filter, and plugs(NKG). I will work on the timing soon. The valves should be looked at so I will take care of that also. I am surprised that this was my problem but time will prove you guys right I am sure. I'll run the milelage in a couple of days and see how I have improved. Thanks

Yeah, The timing is very important because it changes when you replace the cap, rotor and plugs. Remember when you do your timing you need to plug the vacum tube that goes to your distributor and in most cases turn your lights and heater or A/C on.
