Question 2.4L airbox mods for more air

I am a new owner of an 05 RAV4 and would like to open up the intake to improve air flow (as I have done countless times before with other vehicles). Other than a higher flow air filter like a K&N, is there any other mod for better ait flow?

I've heard of people giving the box a "swiss cheese" effect. Essentially, you drill holes in the air box for better air flow. I don't know if this has any negatives however, but worth a shot.

Why do people continue to recommend hacking up a truck? It amazes me some of the stuff people post here. This is stupid and doesn't do a thing for performance. It just devalues a vehicle. Drilling holes is not going to increase air flow...the filter only flows so much air and all the holes won't change that.

I'm not saying I recommend it, simply saying I have heard of people doing it with some success.
