DETROIT (Reuters) — Toyota Motor said Wednesday it is recalling 978,000 pickups and sport-utility vehicles sold on the U.S. market because a steering relay rod on the vehicles may fracture, causing a loss of control.
Vehicles affected by the recall, from the 1989-1996 model years, include power-steering equipped 4Runner SUVs and compact pickups and T-100 pickups, Toyota said.
Toyota spokesman Sam Butto said no accidents or injuries had been reported because of the potentially faulty steering component.
