werid noises in front end

I have a popping noise coming from my front end. I have read that some people recomend to grease the steering stops. I am not so sure that is the option for my 99 taco. I have looked hard under the front end of my and I can not find steering stops or any wear marks. The sound is a hard pop that I can hear on the high way, when I stand on the side of the truck, when I hit my brakes and when I turn.

I took it to the toyota dealership they told me it was my steering rack. I didn't have the 700 to fix it.

Anyone have any ideas of what I can do to limit my cost of replacing the steering rack or another fix.

Check for looseness or play in your steering rack. May need to change out the bushings on the steering rack.

A friend of mine has a 95.5 taco and he was having the same probs as you. His ended up being his differential. He had put it in 4wd to pull out another truck and bam!, the popping stopped. He no longer has 4wd either! His diff was bad and he has yet to fix it. He's considering a solid axle swap. Just a thought.
