New engine

Well, my friend bought a trans am from a junk yard, and managed to get a free running enigne out of a totaled car. So, he called me up today at about 10pm and said "Hey man, I just got this engine, but I dont want or need it, and I dont have space for it, so you want it?" So I had him bring it over, and it took us about 30min and the 3 of us to manually pick the engine up and set it down in my garage (on a few old tires to keep it from getting messed up). So, now I've got this engine, and I have no idea what it came out of, or anything about it. So I took a few pictures (the engine is a little dirty, but running), and I hope somebody here can tell me what this engine originally went in.

And if anybody knows, will this engine fit in my truck? And even if the engine doesnt fit, what about the turbo?

Edit: After some guessing and searching, I'm guessing this engine is a Nissan VG30ET, or a Turbo Z31, the engine that came stock in the 84-89 300ZX.

That engine still runs eh? I guess one way to figure out wether or not it fits in your truck is to measure your current engine mounts and space under the hood and see if that other engine would go in without any firewall or fender cutting. I bet your stock tranny won't be able to use that engine, but, in this case I hope I'm wrong. Good Luck.

I'm personally doubting it will fit, and I doubt I'll even try... But what do you think about the turbo from that engine on my 22RE?

In the 2nd picture, it look's like a briggs and stratton 10hp LOL
As far as the turbo goes that might be a big job, More than likely your would need your ECU upgraded or changed. the compression ratio on boosted motors is pretty high and you would need to change fueling and air ratio etc. or the motor will go BOOM! check 4x4 wire.com good site that has some info on motor swaps and such. you might be better off buying a junker truck or even a buggy and tossing it in there. that could be a fun project.

That came out of an old 300zx...I think they first year they came out with that motor was in 84...so your guess is as good as mine as to how old that motor is...Think of it as the 7MGTE is to toyota as that is to nissan.

Ya, I know, I'm not a big nissan fan, but like I said, I doubt I'd put that engine in my truck. If I was going to do an engine swap I'd put either a RWD Buick 3800 (GNX) or an LS1 5700 (Corvette/Trans AM/Camaro SS) in it.

I did manage to get the turbo out and cleaned up last night, and it looks like its in good shape. The turbo on that engine is only a 5PSI, and from what I've seen the stock 22RET had a 6PSI turbo on it, so my engine should be able to handle it with some modifications.
