sludge ?

Hi all
I am about to change over to mobil 1 on my next oil change.
I have a 22re 1993 I am hearing a bad rattle at start up, the noise quites down after a few seconds. I have already done the chain and guides, I think the oil is draining back into the pan and emptying the oil pump while it sits.

Has anyone ever used RISLONE engine treatment to clear sludge?
My oil pressure is good after I start the truck so I dont think it is the oil pump itself.
I was going to try the RISLONE before I pull the pump again any comments would be great

Thanks

Its not sludge. Are you using a Fram oil filter? It sounds like the filter antidrainback valve is leaking, and when you startup, the filter is empty. This causes a delay in getting oil up to the cam area.

yep Fram tuff guard

I Thought there was also an anti drain back in the oil pump and that it also tends to stick open?? allowing oil to drain back to the pan from the pump and supply tube am I mistaken?
That is why I planned on using the RISLONE additive have U used this product?
Thanks for the reply
Just checking all bases befor I pull the pump

Fram oil filters suck-no questions asked. The wal-mart branded super tech is 10x better.I would recommend you use a toyota filter or quality equivilent. There isn't a anti drainback, i.e., check valve in the oil pump. Just a relief vavle. All the filter's check vavle does is just help keep the filter itself full of oil, not the top end of the motor. Your oil pump should be fine. There are clearances you can check with feeler guages to check fo wear.

I had a 1984 22R and remember that it has a large filter mounted sideways. That means that at almost a quart of oil is needed to refill it if the valve leaks. It takes a few seconds to fill the filter at startup.

Get rid of that POS Fram filter and get either an OEM Toyota one or a Wix.

Just a follow up I have had the RISLONE in for 42 miles, same oil and filter. I have done multible starts hot and cold and the rattle has cleared up quit a bit I am going to run it for another 100 miles and drain.
If you all would like I will repost after the oil change and update

I don't think you need Rislone to clean the crankcase/head. Around ten years ago, I was using Fram (a shameful move but this was years before internet enlightenment) and the cheapest synthetic oil I could buy: FLAG brand by Kragen. Synthetic oil after two or three oil changes (with the FRAM filter) resulted in a gleeming top cylinder head! The cam followers were sooo clean, that the ultra-thin carbonized oil meerly gave the the forged aluminum rockers a clean/GOLDEN glow, and the natural casting depressions in the aluminum head were clean as h#ll!

A return to dino oil immediately returned a dirtiness as seen on the rockers/casting depressions before the synthetic was used.
