stucked distributor 22r engine

Hello All,

I'm having problems removing the distributor from my old 1983 toyota pickup truck and was wondering if there was a trick that I was missing. I got the TDC mark on the crank shaft pulley lined up to zero degrees, and I even took the valve cover off and made sured that the TDC marks on the the chain/gear thing lined up too, but it won't just pull out like the service manual said that it should. What am I doing wrong or not doing? Any thoughts?

Oh, by the way I did remove the hold down bolt.

I finally to had to open the valve cover and loosen the bolt holding gear driving the distributor and knock the the distributor out with a heavy hammer and a block of wood!!!
