Threw a rod

[94 4-runner]

I have a 94 4-runner and it just threw a rod. I have ben looking at used refurbed motors but they are running around $2400.00. I have only had this 4Runner a little while and it is the first Toyota I have ever owned. Any help on where to just buy parts and the parts I will need to replace a connecting rod and maybe piston would be greatly appreciated.

I have a guy here local that works on Just Toyota Trucks/runners... Is your motor a 3.0 V6 or 2.4 L4 ? I can probably hook ya up with a complete engine at a fair price.. Im in TN so shipping would be kinda expensive...

The 3VZE is used in about 30% of the 1988-95 4-Runners & pickups so you should have no problem getting one private sale for around $200-400 from your local free buy & sell classified papers,websites and community tack/cork public bulletin boards found at public libraries,shopping malls,banks and the like.
Many people buy a complete vehicle from a friend or co-worker only for the frame,tranny or engine then thrash the rest so you may even get one for free "but" before you get the engine take the VIN of the donor vehicle and call your local Toyota dealerships and see if the engine was overhauled for the headgasket recall service bulletin if not get them to recall the engine prior to acquiring it,see below for the actual service bulletins.
Also when you buy one privately it's easier to acquire the history of the vehicle as opposed to some parts hussler who's sole purpose is out to make money and leave you hanging dry.

Thanks a lot Dave. I have found a used motor for 1750 and a guy that will throw it in and tune it up for 900. So let me know if she can hook me up for less. thanks again for your help.
