overheating?

i have a 94 2wd p/u and it is only on a cold start on a cold day that once it starts geting warm it almost goes all the way into the red and then eventually goes down to normal below half and then doesnt go up that high again and it stays normal and its only on cold start ups cause it never did it during the summer. any help would be great. thanks!

It's probably a sticky thermostat, but check to make sure the fan is on when it goes over half.

yeah its your thermostat like karazy said. the fan is clutch driven so its on all the time

ok ill check into it but if it was the thermostat wouldnt it be doing it all the time im not sure it works fine when warm but ill just replace it cause its cheap and will hopefully fix it. thanks again
