Just went out to my truck during lunch and noticed my rear plate missing! I remember seeing it this past weekend. So it happened recently, maybe last night.
I also remember a few weeks ago one of the corners of my registration sticker was torn off, as if someone tried to peel it off.
Now I have to go to the DMV and get a new plate and tags.
mine havent been stolen, but a friend of mine had his front plates stolen off his tc.
someone tried to steal my tie downs tho. dont you hate it when people still stuff ??
The easy fix to keep your plate is to NOT use standard flat-head or phillips-head screws when putting them on. Use allen wrench or star wrench screws, or just use screws that require a crescent wrench to put them on. And put a nut on the back side of that screw.
The thieves in the big city typically carry a big flat-head screw driver. The flat head is great for punching locks, and busting off steering column housings, busting pot-metal ignition switch rings, etc... If your plate has those flat-head screws holding it in, it's gone.
Once they see yours is going to be a pain to get, they just move to the next available vehicle.

I live in Costa Mesa. But I guess it could have happened at work - Torrance.
Just called 5-0, said they're sending an officer out. Didn't think I'd get a response that fast.
That was really fast!! Just finished filling a report with the po-po. He said it would be sent nationwide incase my plate came up in a crime. He also gave me the case number incase I get pulled.
I had a plate stolen off my geo storm a long time ago. I didn't know but somebody pointed it out to me (might have even been a cop). They just filed a report and I got issued a new one. I had to pay extra of course. Now I have a vanity plate so I'd really be angry if someone took it!
i read sonewhere last month that people were stealing plates, putting them on their car and going to gas stations and not paying for gas.. the camera catches the plate number and charges were filed aginst the plate owner.. good thing you caught it...

OT. but All the gas stations here are PrePay only, since last summer. It bugged me at first, but I can understand. I pay with my debit card at the pump so I don't have to go inside and wait inline with all the hillbillies that are buying cigarettes and lottery tickets.
