I'm from the old school toyota crowd...own an 86 turbo yota w/ 240K miles and running very very strong. I was wondering what you all think of the new larger toyota engines? Pros...cons... whatever.
They have a bad reputation compared to the older indestructables...but i've never owned one, and have no basis for an opinion of my own. I'm curious how they hold up when reaching 100K.

For the 4.0l 6sp, I've seen mpg's of 18 - 22, although I have seen higher (search)
Rated horsepower is 235, stock.
I doubt anybody has put 100k yet on the 4.0, so it may be a few years.
I've just come into an 88 myself, SAS'd, with the 3.0 that I have heard nothing but problems of (head gasket). Hopefully I can get 75 - 100 out of it, since it was rebuilt and only has 50k on it now.

I had a 00 Tacoma 3.4 V6 which ran strong. Put the s/c on it at 46,000 miles and ran strong to 61,800. It's totaled but still runs nice. Also have a 06 Sequoia, 4.7 V8 with 15,300 miles which runs like a top, smooth and quiet. My 07 Taco 4.0 V6 runs good but it's a noisy engine which really surprises me, it being a Toyota. Finally, my dad's 04 Camry 3.0 V6 is the smoothest and most quietest engine I've ever experienced. You can't even tell it's running.

As far as the larger engines, I think the Lexus 1UZ-FE will be the next engine I try for a swap - into a 1980 Corolla. I was thinking of a V6 out of a Camry, but because it sits at quite an angle, it will be too awkward to do properly. The aluminum V8 is light, I've heard ~400 lbs but I've never weighted one.
