"Tanned FLA Taco looking for Maryland Taco" New to Maryland

Hey everyone, I made my move up to Maryland this holiday weekend. My fiancé and I left sunny Miami, FLA, Friday night and made it safely to Maryland on Sunday afternoon. The trip was uneventful but fun. The taco w as a dream, easily doing 80mph. I managed to mess up my Scan gauge 2, i must have missed a "fillup." My fiancé had to fly home tonight (Monday), so it's just me and the taco for awhile.

I moved up here to start work, but that wont be for two more weeks yet. I am looking for the MD Taco's and wanted to introduce myself.

Welcome to the "Land of Pleasant Living"! Just 45 miles north of Baltimore now, lived there for 48 years though.

Hope you enjoy weird weather!

Thanks everyone. Sig is updated.

Elwinna, sorry it had to end like that. We had a few good months together. I will miss you and that incredible truck of yours.

I moved to Hanover, near the Arundel Mills Mall, just off 295. I have NO clue where "Upper Marlboro" is, but maybe we can get a Taco meet going.

Do I have to do anything to the truck for winter? I heard I should give it a good wax before winter and then wash it on the good days. My truck now has a nice garage to keep it out of the sun when I am not at work.

Good wax job? YES. Typically, the worst of it usually occurs in February and March. You can actually wait as late as November to do it. Fairly unusual to see any snow or ice prior to Thanksgiving. It happens, but it is rare.

Make sure the windshield washer fluid is an anti-freeze compound. It's the only thing you can find up here, but if you didn't get it in Florida, you'll need it.

And get a scraper for your windshield. Keep one in each car. You're also going to need a shovel for the walks and driveway. Possibly ice-melt salt, too. Please don't be silly enough to think there will be plenty once the snow starts falling. These things all instantly transmogrify into a parallel universe at the first flake.

Bonus tip... The worst we've ever seen has had people stranded in their own homes for maybe 1 or 2 days. Don't let the pantry run empty!

Anne Arundel and Howard Counties are pretty good at staying on top of road conditions, so unless you are really in the middle of nowhere you should make out ok.

The vast majority of snows are maybe 4" or less. Stay tuned to radio stations like 98 Rock, 97.9 FM, or WBAL 1100 AM. Traditionally, these are the stations where "closings" are announced. In Maryland, snowfalls are treating on the same panic-level as global thermo-nuclear war. EVERYTHING closes on the POSSIBILITY of snow!

Believe it or not, the tires you're running work surprisingly well, unless we get a heavy snow. Although I have 4wd, I spent a lot of time in 2wd getting to know my limited-slip. Those Bridgestones are pretty sticky. Get 300lbs in the bed just in front of the axle just in case. OR, try what I did last year. Roll up the tonneau cover and let it snow into the bed. Most often we get "wet", heavy snows that make a difference quickly.

If and when we do get snow, start out by cutting your speed waaay down. Maryland drivers are incredibly stoopid in this stuff. Leave plenty of distance between you and the other cars.

Guess that ought to about cover it. You can count on many more threads relating to winter weather driving in the coming months. wee-haa.

Hope this helps.

Welcome to the Republic of Maryland! Lol. I am in central MD.

All of us MD taco lovers should get together sometime. Maybe do some wheeling?

BTW - Your gauge lights look great!
