Check it out guys, go to http://www.readywelder.com/forum.htm
create and account, make 5 useful new posts and you will be entered to win a free ready welder! The drawing is December 26th and the winner will be announced December 28th. I bought one of these things used off ebay and it's awesome! That's what I used to weld my sliders, bumper, and gussets. Good luck, I hope one of us from the forum wins. There is a good chance, there's only like 4 users in the drawing and they are giving away 3 welders!
I'm thinking of setting up a group buy on these if anyone is interested PM me, Later-
THE READY WELDER !
"THERE'S NOTHING LIKE IT"
PORTABILITY: The Ready Welder, in it's case, is light enough to be hand carried.
POWERFUL: This MIG Welder can be powered by batteries, or by AC current when connected to a welding machine as a Spool Gun.
AMPERAGE RANGE: The Ready Welder welds very thin metals using a 12 and a 6 volt battery, (18 volts) or very thick metals with 36 volts DC, (three 12 volt batteries) yielding from 45amps, up to 350 amps of power.
VERSATILE: Welds steel, stainless steel, aluminum, or any weld-able metal or alloy; in addition: Use it as a Spool Gun or as a stand alone welder. Ready Welder II welds with, or without a gas tank, as with flux core electrode wire.
ECONOMY: User friendly, quick setup time, economical to use, low purchase cost, are among the factors making it a "must have" for every tool box.
UNIQUENESS: The Copyrighted design and Patented Circuitry make it a unique product which fills a previously unmet need, worldwide.
SAFETY FACTOR: After a history of nearly 10 years of operation, the Ready Welder Corporation has had no report or claim of any injury from use of the Ready Welder.
Did anyone sign up yet? Don't underestimate this machine, you can single pass 3/4" plate steel using three 12V deep cycle batteries. It looks like a toy, but welds like a professional machine. Any interest in a GB? Maybe after Santa comes to town?
Oh who am I kidding... I never win anything. Not to mention it would be a bit of a pain getting 24v set up for it....
Nah. You've already got one good battery under your hood. Just get another one and you are good to go. For how often I use mine it's no big deal to unhook the truck cables and weld. If I used it everyday it might suck lugging batteries around, but you could make a dolly/welding cart. Even with two optima's it's lighter and easier to move around than a standard mig machine.

Not when I have something like this:
It probably weighs less than 1 optima. Or at the very least it has a handle and it's very light weight.

That's true, and it also appears to be 110v, which means you can weld pop cans together but it won't have enough amps to weld material much thicker than 1/4", and that's pushing it.

Mine will do 3/16" I think. I rarely do anything more than 1/8" anyway. Hell, even our skid plates are essentially sheet metal. I kinda wish I'd bought one with the option of hooking gas up to it for MIG, but I get by without it. I don't have any aluminum laying around anyway.
Either way, I just plug it in and go so it works great for me! Something like the RW would be great for packing on a buggy to go offroading since I'd be beating on it like you do your truck, but 24v might be hard to do unless I just strap a couple extra batteries in "just in case". Then maybe throw them on a charger at home.
