Old news but I sure like the Hi-Lux better than the Tacoma. Fully boxed frame, 4-wheel disc, rounded wheel arches. Much more like the Toyota trucks of yesteryear.

I wonder if that is a prelude to what the Tacoma may take on in 2009?

Why doesn't Toyota just drop the Tacoma name and call it the hilux here in the states? I mean the US and Canada (Mexico too?) are the only countries that don't have a truck called the hilux.

Mexico has the Hilux, but only as entry level base truck. It's only available with the 2.7L engine and no 4x4. http://www.toyota.com.mx/modelos_spe...ior_hilux.aspx

The Tacoma in Mexico isn't available with the 4x4 either, only the Tundra has 4x4 as an option but you can't get the bigger V8 for the Tundra. I can't understand why Toyota just can't offer the turbo diesel engine for the Taco in the USA as an option.

would it be hard to import one?

i'm assuming the ones overseas are built to a minimum US safety standard...at least like all the cars in europe are.
