excellent pics.
a thread like this will force me to get pics of my 16 and 12 foot stand up boards.
spent some time on cape cod and used to dress like that. either the water or the air had to be at least 50 to go out. now i freeze my ass off if it's below 70. but i still go everyday.
full on junkie... must paddle every morning...

I will get some pics posted when I head to Hatteras. Was hoping that people could post some pics of their board racks. I'm trying to figure out a clean way to fit my 9'0" and 6'4" onto racks. I don't care for the look of tall ladder racks, but want something that can accommodate my 9'0"; I'm going to a dealership this week to look into the factory bed bars.

Lets see what you got. Thanks!

PS. Some solid East Coast shots there. looks really good livin4thesummer. Maybe soon you'll learn to stand up. Ha, j/k; Nice pics man.

i use the thule bed racks. you can cut notches in the uprights to get a custom height. my dc longbed also has the factory roof rack, highly recommended. i set my bed racks lower than most, especially the rear one. the boards now follow a natural curve of the truck, strapped to the bed racks, and just resting on the roof racks. easy on -off, which is important when im so tired i can barely lift my board over my head. thule was the cheapest way to go for me. i'll try to post pics.

LPB- thanks for the info; pics would be much appreciated. My '06 DC does not have the factory roof racks (they weren't a big item for me since those racks alone would not cut it for supporting my 9-0) so I'm looking into other options.

Does anyone know if the bed racks are above the tailgate or if they sit below the top of the tailgate? The pics i have seen look like they're slightly above the tailgate height but I'm wondering how close they are since my 9-0 has a decent amount of rocker to it. I wouldn't want to secure it on there with a lot of stress in the board.

Thanks for your input!

this is the tacoma with the 16 footer.

the whales are here. had one tooling along about 50 yards off my port bow this morning. i think there was a baby too. the spinner dolphins were escorting them, and jumping around. looked to my right and another was about 100 yards out. it swam under and surfaced about 50 yards behind me. big mo-fo's. really beautiful conditions lately.

LPB; nice pics, you are right that looks really good and has a nice natural flow with the roofline. Your stories make me even more jealous.

As far as racks are concerned; I think you have one of the best setups for what I'm needing; looks like I'll add those to the list! Thanks so much for your pics and input.

Livin4; do yall get surf like that with any consistency? This winter has been pretty solid for us in NC; but its too freakin cold for my blood (plus, it takes an act of god for me to fit into my wetsuit from high school ).

Thanks again guys,

Cheers!

another option is to have one bedrack and one clip on roofrack. i saw a dc shortbed with this, and it looked good. both were thule. i need all that crap i have because i haul lumber around once and awhile.

my only concern with that setup would be the bed and cab twisting the board. i'd be sure to have enough slack in the straps. i'm a bit paranoid because my stuff is vaccuum epoxy.

come on colonial you missed my third pic, thats me too!!! the waves arent always that good but its been a better winter than average. hopefully this summer will be better than the previous as well. here are some more of me standing up.

i bought the factory crossbars for the back of my truck to haul my board, which is also 9'. i pad the tailgate and the bars and lay the board across them. use the tiedowns near the tailgate to hold that side down with a strap and tie the board to bars themselves nearer the cab, eventually ill add more tiedowns up there. ill get a pic at some point.

^ i think that's a very smart way to carry boards. roof and bedracks are noisy and cost miles per gallon. nice pics by the way. looks like fun.

paddled across a 3 mile channel last thursday, conditions were unusually unwindy. about half way across, a whale breached about 50 yards behind me. i caught a little push from his wake. big mo fo. i heard a lady talking at the store yesterday, she was on a whale watch, and a baby whale tried to climb into the boat!
