Off topic: Would like Motorcycle opinion of Taco owners...

I am seriously considering buying the new Harley Sportster, Nightster 1200. It is there new version of the Sportster that is all blacked out. Does anyone have any opinions, are any of you Harley Owners?

i agree if you want a cruiser there are plenty others out there at a more reasonable price that will out perform a harley... i personally have have never owned a cruiser. I had a Yamama R6 for a couple years and it was lots of fun.

I personally would not ride anything lower than 700cc, but here's what I'm saving to have 2010.

I really like the Nightster. I went and looked at it for days. Couldn't get my mind off it. I decided against it for a few reasons.

If you like it because it's a Sportster and you think you'll save money, my advice is don't. The Nightster is about $11K out the door...

A brand new Dyna Street Bob is about $14k out the door. The difference is gunna be a full sized 96ci motor and a full sized bike. Much more comfy ride and better resale in the long run. Harley did a bad job pricing those IMHO. If I'm going ten grand in the hole, just make it 14 and give me a big boy bike.

If you just like the bike for what it is and love having your brains rattle while you ride, I say go for it!

I actually decided against both. There's really only a handful of riding months here in Ohio. So I ended up picking up an 02 919 with 1400 miles on it. And hot damn, that thing is defiantly not a Harley!

There's nothing that comes close to the feel of a harley. I started out with a 2004 Honda CBR600, and sold that for a 2001 Sportster 1200C. Absolute blast to ride.

Personally, I don't like how the nightsters look. If I had the money or rode ALOT, I would get the Night Train...Absolutely BADASS ride.

And also...If it don't leak oil, then it's not a harley

I can say if you are looking into a sportster, I think that you might figure that you would grow out of it pretty quick. The sportster is a good bike, but if you become an avid biker, you will outgrow it. If you want to stick with Harley, I would suggest a nighttrain. The softail line is larger line of bikes, with more features and better looks that the sportsers...



BUT........Since I own a Victory, and I can speak nothing but praise of it, I would definately suggest looking into a Victory Vegas 8-Ball. I have ridden a Sportser 1200, softail classic, and my Vegas, and the Vegas outperforms the others by far. If you a buying a Harley just to say "I have a Harley", then go for it. But if you want a bike that will last and perform like you want and be one of the best bikes you will own, then at least give the Victory a fair shot....take one for a test drive and you will be sold...





Its all about your budget, but if it is the blacked out looking bike you are looking for, definately take each bike out for a test ride. I know Victory dealers are great about test rides. Try them all out before you buy is the best advice I could give. Make sure you are getting something you like and something that suites your needs. The above are just examples of a slightly different route the I suggest. Its all up to you though, just laying out some options! If you want it then buy it , But you have to rock it with ape hangers ! But seriously I almost bought a 1200 custom but for a couple grand more I bought a dyna superglide , looks like a sportster but you get the big v-twin motor with enough torque to haul ass and carry a passenger . just my 2c

Yeah,I had a girlfriend that rode a sportster.You want power? S&S 124 is the ticket if you like v-twin.You will want something bigger real quick if you go with the Sporty,it's my version of a mini-bike,if your over 5'7'' your knees will stick up past the gas tank.Go custom.

I personally do not like Harley's. I've owned a Katana 750 and an R6 but if I were to buy a new bike now, I'd get a Road Star Warrior. I've ridden a couple and I've ridden quite a few Harley's and, to me, there's just no comparison: RSW FTW.

I also have to say, the idea of going with a Victory is also very attractive. Every person I know who owns/has owned one loves them.

If you're looking for a putt around bike then yea the sporster is a good sale. They're not very good on the highway and not all that much fun to drive in general i find. I have driven the 883 and the 1200 and frankly you don't get any respect from the harley guys and can't keep up with the crotch rockets. I've only owned sport bikes cbr 600 and gixxer 750 and my next purchase would be the night rod VRSCD, bad ass or the new suzuki boulevard M109R. The M109R is pretty big in comparison with the V-rod but they both haul ass. The funny thing is i priced out a night rod here in alberta for over 30 grand and on their website in the states they sell for 14,995. Why do we Canadians always get screwed? Anyhow i'm over 200 pounds so i look rediculas on a sporster, and frankly they're kind of a chick bike. But if it makes ya happy then ride it.

If your set on a Harley, I'd pony up for one of their better bikes. Personally I'd rather go for a Fat Boy, or a V-Rod. I know the V-rod is not popular among the traditionalist Harley riders, but I think the bike is unique and pretty cool looking. There are better bikes that can be had than a Sportster, and yes you will be laughed at for riding one. There's a reason they are called "Skirtsters" .
