Outter Bankers - vacation suggestions!

Hey Gang,

I'm heading down to Whalehead in 2 weeks (April 5th) ...

I've been to the Outter Banks a few times but it's probably been 8 years or longer since I've been there. I remember buying chicken legs and catching crabs...funny as hell! I've read you can do this all year long? Is that true? Is the crabbing good this time of year?

I'd like to do a little fishing ..something simple (and cheap) on a headboat.
Where would you recommend a good headboat to hook up with? Do I need reservations?

Or would you recommend renting rods/reels and surf fishing?
I've never surf fished ever and I probably couldn't throw the thing far enough...As long as I'm catching something - I don't care if its on the shore or on a boat.

Any good places to eat? I'm not looking for fancy restaurants - just your typical american steak, ribs, burgers, pizza, etc......

Any touristy spots to visit? I've seen a couple of the light houses... I've seen them gliding at Kitty Hawk.... Oh hell, give me any ideas ya got. I'll take 'em all!
How about ATV rentals?

Thanks!
The truck is staying home....the Acura MDX is taking us down there.

If fishing is your thing, go to Oregon Inlet for head boat outings. They are pretty cheap, $50 or so. Also, try fishing off the surf wherever you are staying. Just go to a local bait shop for tips, gear and advice. If you are taking your 4x4, go up past Corolla and you can drive on the beach. Just bring/buy a surf rod and plenty of beverages and you'll be sure to have a good time. Places to eat...take your pick. They have all the local / tourist fare that you could want.

Have a good time and post pics if you catch anything good. FYI....google Oregon Inlet and check the latest fishing reports if you are interested.

Awesome! Thankyou!

Wow...I've only ever caught flounder on other trips in/around here. Looks fun! Gonna check out the Oregon inlet site more thoroughly! Thanks!
