I like charts like that. Not that I am as crazy yet to do it with my gas mileage , but I am doing similar things with my finances.
And there is a trend visible in you running average (at least that's what I think it is), and it's not a good one ....

I use my truck for work which includes alot of stop and go driving around the jobsite, lots of idling, etc.
Since January I have averaged $20.53 per 100 Kilometers (62.5 miles). That's equal to $0.328 per mile. The Canadian Dollar is currently valued at $0.994 of the US dollar (so pretty much equal).
Fuel in my area is currently priced at $4.59 per US Gallon.
Calculations Based On:
9964 Km (~6226 Miles)
1687.95 Liters of fuel
$2046.00 cost of fuel
in my world, a penny a mile is worth about $120 a year, or $10 per month.
as much as we moan about fuel costs, fuel cost is only part of the story.
in my world, insurance costs $0.053 per mile.
intrest on my truck note is currently running $0.054 per mile.
factor in everything else (oil, windshield wipers, windshield wiper fluid, soap, water wax etc) and fuel is only half the cost to operate
deperciation thus far is running at about $0.17 per mile. give or take.
i'm done.
So you drive about $12K miles per year. The exact same as me. Now here is my reply to the above:

Same as yours. see below.

True.

Luckily, in my world, that's only $0.025 per mile

That part is $0.00 for me.

You'll have that cost anyway, no matter how much gas you save.

I don't know. Never calculated that part. I replace vehicles every 10 years or so, and don't care much about that. They are not worth much anyway after that time.

Good.
Seriously, how much of the $10 per month are you planning to save by drawing lines? If $10/month would be that important to me, then I most definately would not be driving a Tacoma.
But if this is just a hobby of yours, than that's a different story. You just make it sound as if you do that to save money. If you want to save money, start with the big ticket items and track those, not something that amounts to $10 per month. So I am talking about getting a cheaper car, paid for, less gas. Or shorter commute. Or, or, or ... there are many things. Focus on the important items if saving money is the goal!

Haha, I'm glad I'm not the only one that keeps track of stuff like this on Excel! I track the usual stuff but I break it down in to miles per $1 rather than dollars per mile.
Then I start calculating how much those trips to work really cost, or how much the trip up the mountain to ski really costs... I know, I have too much time on my hands

mine would be rougly about $2.7 each way all in (fuel, insurance, etc etc etc)
plus i get to pay for your commutte if you take the CTA in chicago in the form of sales tax that was passed specifically to support the cta.

its not about saving money, its just about making charts with one set of real world data
if i wanted to save $10 a month, i'd eliminate the weekend starbucks
Good to hear! Yeah, there are better places to save than $0.01 per mile!
BTW, why was this thread moved? I guess cost does not matter to Tacoma owners? Seriously, there are way more useless posts that stay, but whatever .....
