A good floor jack

A little off topic but I need a floor jack/stands and thought I'd throw it out there and see what everyone on TN uses. I'm not looking so spend major dough but it doesn't have to weigh 60 lbs either. Thanks

You might check out Craftsman at Sears. 3 ton floor jack, two lift stands, and a creeper for $100.

Aluminum jacks look cool, but I wouldn't get one. Steel FTW

I love my Craftsman Air Jack. I don't think they make it anymore.

Pb, what's the problem with aluminum jacks? I bought a 3 ton at Costco a couple weeks ago, and so far I am very happy with it. If there is a good reason to get a different one, Costco will take it back.
I like how much control I have when lowering the truck. Very smooth.

I dunno. It's probably fine, but I trust steel more. Aluminum is lighter, but it's also a lot weaker. Parts of those aluminum jacks are steel, like the steel pins, bolts, etc. and where steel and aluminum join there will usually be corrosion after a while.
Your jack is fine though. This is just my preference.

Always use steel jack stands though.

Gunna resurrect an old thread here instead of making a new post....

I have an 07 Taco. No lift yet, but hoping to install 5100s at about 2in lift and rear AAL.

I am looking for a good floor jack and can't find any 2 ton jacks that go higher than 15.2 which I don't think is high enough?

Am I wrong? I know 13in isn't high enough, and if I do put on larger wheels, than 15in will definitely not be high enough!

I am looking at a 3ton jack from JC whitney - goes to 21in. Torin Big Red.

Anyone use it? have any problems with it? Runs about $70. Any other suggestions in the same or lower price range?

thanks.

I too am curious. I have an 06 highlander and what would be the range I would need to look at? at least 21 inches? I would like to have one that would work on multiple cars & SUVS, namely my Highlander, Camry, and Avalon.

I was looking at the Torin jack 3 ton for "SUV" or maybe one at Costco. Any opinions or comments?

if you're on a budget, you can't beat craftsman jacks. i have their 3 ton unit, it does the job quite well. although the quick lift pump fail within a year, the jack still works great. i always feel confident using this heavy duty jack on any truck/suv. don't forget to get quality jack stands too.

Scary Torin Big Red

You are taking your safety and the safety of your car in your own hands if you use those cheap made in china 2,5/3 ton jacks. I had one that just started to leak fluid in storage after a few uses. What do you expect for 20 odd bucks or so. Spend a bit and jack safely without risking damage to your ride.
