So gas prices drove me to the dealer this weekend looking for something smaller than the Sienna for my wife. All I had in my head was Corolla, something perfect to offset my 08 Tacoma (Two fuel hogs in the household sucks). The wife detested the Corolla so we test drove the Matrix and Rav4. I made a deal for the Matrix which I just pulled out of (i hate buying something in a rush, it was an impulse decision that was poorly made). Starting to think that I should just ride the Sienna till its dead or close to it.
She has 137k miles, 77k which I put in. She is beat up, dent in the back bumper, terrible paint job on the drivers side (the paint job was a result of not an auto accident but just a cement beam in my wifes way. We were broke at the time and took it to a low quality auto body person to fix it on the cheap side).
She has given me only one issue aside from basic maintenance. The alternator went at 103k. She also has an odor of burnt oil from time to time... It has been thoroughly checked and no leaks and no consumption. Nothing significant at least. Right now is at 2800 miles since last oil change and its just ticks away from the original mark after the oil change. I recently switched to one of those High Mileage Oils hoping it would clear anything up.
What do you think? Keep her till death do us part? Shop for another economical vehicle???
Thanks guys... I know this has nothing to do with the Taco... But figured I'd ask the Taco crowd since its the one that relates best to me.
That was my next thought... I told wifey about it. I will show it to her tonight, hopefully she likes it. If she does, I will take her for a test drive tomorrow. I could only wish that is the case.
Save your money and ride her till she dies. Put it this way, what did you estimate your monthly payment would be for a new vehicle? Put that same amount in an investment account monthly. When she does die, use that same money for your new vehicle, you'll be happy you did. I can almost guarantee it.

Run her into the ground then either sell it outright or give to a charity garage for a tax deduction. Even in Fair condition, the van will have a good book value which is what is used to determine the deduction. ITS WIN WIN & have done it.

Great point... I am always in need of a good tax deduction.
