The engine is a 4.7 L VVT I engine which means variable valve timing with intelligence. This allows the valves to open and close (or breathe) to increase fuel economy and offer better performance. The "I" is for intelligence- or brains of the engine remembering your pattern of driving.

Can anyone confirm?
Thats what I thought as well. The 4.7V8 that came in the first generation Tundra before 2005 did not have VVT, believe in 2005 they started designating that V8 as an I-Force. It had lower hp/tq ratings before 2005. I'm not sure but I'd say what you quoted is accurate.

They started calling the V-8 an "i Force" from the very begining of the tundra launch back in 99' as a 00' model. Its just a name as "vortec" is for GM etc. etc.
