How many traffic lights?

On the way to work yesterday I was getting annoyed at all the stop and go traffic and for some reason it came to me to count all the lights on the way.

9 traffic lights in 4 miles! No blinking lights either...

I was wondering what other people had to deal with every day on their commutes and how many GPM killers you had to endure.

City- Charleston, SC
Traffic lights- 9
Top posted speed limit on the way- 45

No stoplights for me... there are only 3 in my entire county and two of them are located right next to walmart. I might add that I also live in one of the larger (land wise) counties in the lower 48, easily the biggest in my state.

2 lights between my house and the Interstate. After that, I'm in a different location every week.

Typically, it's a 45-60 mile drive, one way, just to get in the vicinity of where I'll be working.

Sometimes 300 miles... one way.

No traffic lights on my commute. It's a regular party driving here.

Heavy traffic or you just kept hitting red lights?

I got 6 and if I adjust my speed right, I hit em all green.

I have 4 stop signs, 1 stop light and 1 traffic circle in the first 1/2 mile. After that its a stop light every half mile for 4 more miles until I hit the expressway. Of course sometimes I have to wait a couple of cycles to get through the lights. Then on the expressway (who named it that anyway?) we either have traffic flow at 80 mph or stop and go for 20-40 miles.

9 lights in 4 miles isn't so bad. I guess you'll get used to it.

My commute is maybe 500-700 feet and 1 stop sign.

Though if I go anywhere for lunch in town, I can hit between 2 and 4 lights within about a mile.

It's called "strategic planning". See, I drove 55 miles to work in NJ and vowed NEVER AGAIN once I moved here 8 years ago (Myrtle Beach area). So, I live 5 miles from work, go through 3 lights and turn at the third. I usually only get a red at one of them, though. Takes me all of 10 minutes to get to work.

I have been thinking about getting rid of my Taco lately because of the 12 MPG I routinely get. The sticker said 16 city. I get 12. I just started a new job that finally gave me the opportunity to get on the highway and I got 23 MPG last tank. I had about 10 miles total that were not highway with the cruise control on. The new consumer reports came out with all the new car and truck ratings and it says on their test vehicle they got 12 City and 20 something highway. I was so glad to see it in black and white, I was beginning to think my taco had to much pico de gallo or something.
I shall keep the taco.

Into town, 5 mi, 1 stoplight.

Commute to work, 12 mi, 1 stoplight.

Suppose that explains the good mileage.

3 lights. 12 mi. takes almost 2 hrs. that includes about 4 miles of 4x4 dirt road, and 1.2 hours for the morning paddle. makena to ulupalakua for google map fans that want to see a cool shortcut.
